If you're going through difficulty and wonder where God is, remember the teacher is always quiet during the test.
Lets face it, member or non-member of the church we've all asked ourselves this question. Sometimes we go through things in life that will shake us a little and make us feel a wee bit poop, or maybe a big bit poop. It can knock us off the path for a little while and things happen that seem out of our control. We are told in Doctrine and Covenants 1 : 35 For I am no respecter of persons, and will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion.
36 And also the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst, and shall come down injudgment upon Idumea, or the world. President Harold B. Lee said, “Today you are witnessing the fulfillment of a prophecy concerning Satan’s dominion. Today is the day when the devil has power over his own dominion.” We stop doing things that we should be doing and start listening to that small voice of the evil one because he wants to destroy the plan and knows that with the Holy Ghost beside us, we are an unstoppable force.
Well guess what... Only you have the power to let in that voice or to cast it out.
We must push through.
It seems impossible right?
Oh and guess what again... it's not.
God allows us to go through bumps on our journey because it's completely necessary for our salvation, we must be tested to see how faithful we are to our Father in heaven. Think of it this way, your mum makes the most delicious cookies - just warm out of the oven! She asks you not to touch them until she is back from running a few errands but you're just so desperate to eat these warm gooey cookies (chocolate chip of course). This is your time to show your Mum when she comes back that you managed to not give into temptation and stop yourself having just one little bite. Life is a probation for us to let us prove to God how faithful we are to him so that we can return home with him someday.
During a regional stake conference, President Freed (my stake president) spoke about the greatest rescues in history. He spoke about hundreds of little boats that crossed the English channel to rescue British, French and Belgian troops during war. In his testimony he added "I am grateful for the influence of men and women who have, at points in my own life, sailed their small boats to the stranded beaches I've found myself on from time to time. These people have pointed me towards Him, towards my Saviour and I rejoice in His ability to redeem and rescue." Like President Freed, we will not be left alone. God will not leave us comfort-less, the Saviour will be eagerly waiting to hold our hand and bring us back onto the path, we only need to push through and come unto Him.
