Called of God

On the 29th of November 2015 it marked a year since I joined the church. I remember thinking in October 14 whilst watching General Conference from my iPad "Why are there so many people in one room just listening to people speak from a pulpit?". FYI -
General Conference is a gathering of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held semiannually every April and October at the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. General authorities pray for inspiration on what council that we need to hear that will keep us close to God. When I grew to understand the importance of these people speaking, my desire to attend general conference grew. I so badly wanted to visit all of the beautiful temples and to feel what it was like to be surrounded by so many people who believed the same thing as I did. I would listen to the choir and couldn't even imagine the spirit that I would feel from them.

I am so grateful and blessed to have been able to spend two weeks in Utah, to be there for general conference and to live with a wonderful family, where one family member just so happened to be in the choir. I am so grateful that, that family has been put in my life for a reason. I am grateful that I have been able to accomplish my goals that I set for myself within less than a year. Many goals I didn't think would come for another few years... It's scary to think about the goals I could accomplish in my time here on earth...

"Today, we have … apostles, seers, and revelators who are watchmen on the tower, messengers of supernal, healing truth, God speaks to us through them. They are profoundly aware of the different circumstances we members are living in. They are in this world but not of this world. They point the way, and they offer help for our difficulties, not through the wisdom of this world but from an eternal Source." President Uchtdorf

I had the pleasure of being at the session where three new apostles were called. I remember entering the conference center and staring at the three empty seats then looking at every single general authority trying to think of who it could be. When the prophet walked in the room I immediately knew that no matter who these men were that were about to be called, that they were called of God. As Elder Rasband, Elder Stevenson and Elder Renlund were called, they humbly took their seats. At first it was strange for me, usually when something happens like that outside of church, it deserves a round of applause or something... Although everyone in the conference hall was silent, the room was filled with an indescribable joy. Angels lit up the room.

The guidance and words that we hear from these men that are called of God, really is from God himself. We need to cling to it. We need to cherish it. We need to live it.
There is going to come a time where we all question why we have to obey this council, perhaps some of us are right now. The answer is do it, put it to work and watch the blessings unfold. The answer is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
